My Twins are Turning 1 Tomorrow...

February 2, 2015

Today on 2/2/2015, Groundhog Day, I am filled with memories of what life was like exactly a year ago. Watching the Seahawks win their first Super Bowl on 2/2/2014 (Blah, Go 9ers!) and thinking that I have my c-section in the morning on 2/3/2014. I remember how freaked out I was about every single aspect of what was to come. I really didn't envision how we would get by with two newborns at once. Well, here we are a year later. We survived and they survived most importantly. Everyone always said that we just have to get through the first year with twins. I remember thinking that a year is a long time, but it wasn't. Despite all of the challenges, this year flew right by and now it is such a bittersweet feeling as my infants are becoming toddlers. I thank God every day for them and I can't imagine my life any other way now. Here's a birthday poem I wrote for the girls' 1st birthday:

I remember that life-changing day
When I had no idea what to do or say
After being told that I’m having twins
And this is how our little story begins

Through difficult pregnancy and bed rest
All I could do was wish for the best
I was scared of raising two at once
Yet I was so grateful for this chance

Carrying twins was so surreal
I asked daily if this was real
I could never truly process it
I was terrified, I must admit

All of that flew by and there you were
Two swaddled babies with blonde hair
So tiny, fragile, wrinkly, cute and new
I was at a loss, yet I knew I loved you

The first few months were so rough
Diapers, milk, gas, crying and stuff
I didn't think we would ever survive
It was a very different style of life

Our world was turned upside down
If not for your grandparents around
We wouldn't have gotten through
They helped us care for both of you

Suddenly your smiles appeared
And most troubles disappeared
Then you became so much fun
And now you're turning ONE!

I love your silky skin and hair
You two are the sweetest pair
I love how you move and crawl
I wouldn't change a thing at all

With you two the work load is double
But now instead of double the trouble
We tell everyone it's double the fun
Because two of you are better than one

You both bring everyone so much joy
I want to buy you every single toy
With your beautiful dimples and eyes
You two are our greatest surprise

You're loved more than you know
We're excited to watch you grow
Our world revolves around you
Happy Birthday to the both of you!
